Movement for National Transformation founding President Daniel Shimunza has described as “irresponsible” the move to increase President Edgar Lungu’s salary along with selected government officials by the Ministry of Finance amid austerity measures.

According to a statutory instrument signed by the Minister of Finance Margarate Mwanakatwe, President Lungu will now be getting, k487, 839 from k 432,000 as an annual salary plus a special annual allowance of k129, 413

Mr. Shimunza has questioned the move considering that the country is facing social and economic challenges.

The opposition leader argues that President Lungu doesn’t deserve the increase, due to what he contend is the poor prevailing economic conditions.

Mr. Shimunza feels that President and his Ministers have been unable to boost the economy, to create jobs for the country’s youth despite repeated promises to do so.
