Church urged not to be political

President Edgar Lungu has urged the church to be above politics.

And President Lungu says the church should help capacitate the Zambia Centre for Interparty Dialogue to lead the dialogue process.

The President says the Zambia centre for inter-party dialogue is the institution mandated to head all dialogue processes saying the church is welcome to be part of the dialogue process but it should be devoid of political influence.

President Lungu has emphasized the need for the church to operate in a non political manner especially regards the dialogue process.

He has reiterated that those in the church who want to act political should join politics sop that they can be treated as politicians.

The president has noted that if the church feels that the ZCID does not have capacity to lead the dialogue process then the church should help it have the much needed capacity.

President Lungu said this when he officiated at the celebration of the 70th anniversary of world council of churches celebrated under the theme walking, praying and working together.

Meanwhile Religious Affairs and Guidance Minister Reverend Godfridah Sumaili noted the need for government and the church to pray, work and walk together in sincerity.

And Council of Churches of Zambia President Bishop Dr Alfred Kalembo has assured of CCZS commitment to partner with government in the provision of services needed in all human endeavors.
