Governance, Elections, Advocacy and Research Services (gears) Initiative Executive Director Macdonald Chipenzi has resolved to go to court over the introduction of the 30 ngwee internet based phone calls tax by government.

Mr. Chipenzi has told q-news that the introduction of internet based phone calls tax is unfair to the Zambian people, hence the decision to take legal action in the public interest.

He says the legal action is aimed at making government explain to Zambians which stakeholders it consulted on the matter.

In august this year, cabinet approved the issuance of a statutory instrument (si) that will facilitate the introduction of a 30 ngwee a day tariff to be charged through mobile phone operators and internet providers on internet phone calls.
