LWSC is owed over K100M in unpaid bills

vlcsnap-2018-09-17-14h15m32s422The Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company (LWSC) has disclosed that it is being owed over K100 million of unpaid bills by various government institutions.

LWSC Acting Managing Director Matilda Mwansa says most of the government institutions owing her company are hospitals and that the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) is one of them.

Mrs. Mwansa says this situation is denying the water utility company revenue it needs to improve service delivery in Lusaka city.

She said this today when Lusaka Province Minister Bowman Lusambo paid an impromptu visit at the LWSC head office in Lusaka.

And Mr. Lusambo has urged the water utility company to improve on service delivery to the people of Lusaka.

Mr. Lusambo, who is concerned over the numerous reports his office is receiving on poor service delivery by the LWSC, has also encouraged the company to increase its sensitization in communities.

He has however assured the company that his office will engage the Ministry of Finance to see how funds can be released to the utility company to help it work on improving water service provision.

Mr. Lusambo wants this to be done before the onset of the rains in order to avoid outbreaks of diseases like cholera that arise due to poor water provision and sanitation.
