Death toll in SA Royal Africa bus accident rise to 11

The death toll of people who died in the accident involving a Royal Africa Logistix bus that was traveling from Kitwe, Copperbelt Province, to Johannesburg, South Africa, has risen from 6 to 11.

The bus which is of address 125 Kerk Street Johannesburg, South Africa, has been identified as a Scania Marcopolo Registration Number FT 82 BZ GP.

It was carrying 50 passengers and five crew members when the accident occurred on Monday near Bela-Bela 180km away from Polokwane and 107 km away from Pretoria.

And Zambia’s High Commissioner to South Africa Emmanuel Mwamba who has confirmed the occurrence of the accident says the misfortune was caused by a tyre burst.

Mr. Mwamba says other people on board the bus have been injured and that his mission is in touch with the owners of the bus service company.

He says embassy staff were also rushed to the scene of the bus accident and that further details on the accident will be provided.
