Govt is defying Constitution in debt contraction – Mwiimbu

Monze Central Member of Parliament Jack Mwiimbu has accused government of defying the Constitution when contracting external debt.

Mr. Mwiimbu suspects that government is accruing external debt without the approval of Parliament contrary to the 2016 constitutional amendment requirements.

He has alleged that government is defying the Republican Constitution provision in this manner because it does not want Parliament to offer checks and balances.

Mr. Mwiimbu has wondered how Parliament can offer the checks and balances when it is ignorant about how much has been borrowed so far by the executive.

He states that government needs to be transparent about the debt it is contracting on behalf of the Zambian people.
