FFTUZ welcomes revised minimum wage

Chingati MsiskaFederation for Free Trade Unions of Zambia President Chingati Msiska has welcomed government’s resolve to increase the minimum wage for domestic workers from 5 hundred and 22 kwacha to 9 hundred and 93 kwacha.

Mr. Msiska says workers have fought for a minimum wage for more than a century, and its introduction will see the earnings of 6.4 million workers increase.

On Friday Minister of Labour Joyce Simukoko announced the new minimum wages, which will be effective September 10, 2018.

Others that have gotten a raise, are shop workers, cleaners, sales persons and watch persons among other workers while qualified clerks, book keepers, and credit controller supervisors are the highest paid under the revised minimum wage with their salaries going up slightly over 3 thousand kwacha.

Mr. Msiska says the new revised wage will cushion wage earners from the burden of the recent economic crisis.

Meanwhile Mr. Msiska has welcomed the move by cabinet to scrap of personal to holder vehicles for permanent secretaries and presidential aides saying it is in tandem with the recent pronounced austerity measures.

Recently special assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations Amos Chanda revealed that government has scrapped off personal to holder cars, a move meant to cut government expenditure.

Mr. Msiska is however calling for the  quick implementation of the program.
