The ruling Patriotic Front (PF) has won the Kasenengwa Parliamentary by-election by a landslide.
The ruling PF candidate Sensio Banda polled 10, 346 votes to beat his closest rival Abel Ngwenya of the opposition United Prosperous and Peaceful Zambia (UPPZ) who got 1,673 votes.
The UPPZ candidate was followed by John Zulu of the People’s Alliance for Change (PAC) who got 1, 597 votes.
Kasenengwa constituency has 49, 837 registered voters.
And of the five local by-elections that were held in North Western and Western provinces, the ruling PF has won three of them while the opposition UPND has won two.
The wards that have been won by the ruling PF are Nkenyauna, Kamalamba, Liyovu in North Western Province while Mabili, and Shikombwe wards in Western Province have both gone to the UPND.
And UPPZ president Charles Chanda says his party will petition the election results for the Kasenengwa Parliamentary by-election.
Mr. Chanda says this is owing to the many electoral misconducts his party observed the ruling PF allegedly engaged itself in.
He disclosed in a statement to Q-News that his party has received information from several headmen that on the polling day the ruling PF was paying K20 to K50 to electorates to vote for its candidate.
Mr. Chanda states that his party already has people who are ready to testify.
