Bus loses brakes, injures four along Great East Road

Four people escaped with serious injuries in a road traffic accident that happened in the early hours of Wednesday at the Lusaka showgrounds bus station along the Great East Road.

According to eye witnesses, the accident happened when the breaks of the Toyota Hiace Mini bus failed to function after which the driver lost control of the vehicle.

The bus which was carrying mainly marketeers who were going for their early morning orders, is said to have then hit into a pavement before smashing into an airtime booth and later plunging into a drainage.

A well wisher is said to have rushed the four passengers who were seriously injured to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH).

And A QTV News crew that rushed to the scene found some passengers that escaped the accident with minor injuries still gripped in shock.

Meanwhile the Police in Southern Province has refuted social media reports suggesting that 40 people were shot dead in Sinazongwe by unknown assailants locally known as Karavinas.

Southern Province Police Commissioner Bonny Kapeso says the social media reports are not only misleading but also sensationally alarming the nation.

Mr. Kapeso states that what is true is that from January to date,  the police in the province has recorded 68 cases of murder and of these case 38 arrests have been made.

In a statement Mr. Kapeso has explained that these murder cases do not only involve shootings but also incidents of deaths arising from gender- based violence and ordinary fights.

Mr. Kapeso notes that other deaths were as a result of spearing  of suspects regarding issues of land wrangles  and suspected practice of witchcraft as well as issues of infidelity.

He says the nation should therefore dismiss the authenticity of the story that has been posted on social media as it lacks credibility and objectivity.
