HRC concerned implementation of Public Order Act contradicts Constitution

The Human Rights Commission (HRC) is concerned that the implementation of the Public Order Act has continued to contradict Article of 21 of the Republican Constitution.

vlcsnap-2856-05-23-05h05m55s163Spokesperson Mweelwa Muleya says failure to recognize the previsions of this Article in the implementation of this Act, especially during elections, is a violation of humans rights.

Mr. Muleya states that the commission will continue to demand that the Zambia Police implements the Public Order Act without any discrimination.

He has told QTV News in an interview Commission is not however in support of the enjoyment of human rights and freedoms in the absence of law and order.

Mr. Muleya says the HRC believes that the fundamental principle of the Public Order Act is to operationalize the provisions of Article 21 of the Republican Constitution
