Hiking internet call tariffs was misguided, CTPD agrees

vlcsnap-2018-08-29-07h01m38s914The Center for Trade Policy and Development (CTPD) has added its voice in calling upon government to reverse the 30 Ngwee Internet Calls Tax.

The CTPD agrees with other stakeholders who have argued that the introduction of this tax was misguided.

CTPD Researcher Bright Chizonde says the CTPD in particular, considers the decision by government to introduce the 30 ngwee tariff on internet calls to be erroneous.

Mr. Chizonde says this is because only about 1.3 million citizens can make internet phone calls which translates to about 8 percent of Zambia’s population.

He states that the minimal number of people using internet call services can therefore not justify hiking tariffs on internet calling.
