30ngwee tariff ups costs of doing business-ZACCI

vlcsnap-2018-08-28-08h42m02s543 The Zambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry says the Statutory Instrument (SI) that introduced a 30 ngwee a day tariff on Internet calls will be an additional cost in terms of doing business.

ZACCI president Michael Nyirenda has disclosed that through surveys that ZACCI has conducted in the ICT sector, it has been discovered that that currently government is taxing the ICT sector the highest which he says is however not much of a burden because players in the ICT sector make enough money.

Mr. Nyirenda has however states that now introducing a new tax for the ICT sector will be like double billing the sector which is unfair and will turn out to be a burden in terms of the running of business.

He has advised government top consider instead widening its tax base and try to target the informal sector for some of the new tariffs as most people in the informal sector do not pay taxes.

He states that consumers are already subjected to paying for bundles and the 30 ngwee will just be a burden on the consumer’s part.
