Zambia needs clear debt management strategy – Saasa

Economist Oliver Saasa says Zambia currently needs a clear debt management strategy to avoid ending up in a situation where the country will start to panic when the repayment of the contracted debt falls due.

In an interview with Q-News, Professor Saasa says there is need for the Country to plan adequately on how it will repay its debt especially the sovereign debt.

He adds in future, the Country should first of all come up with a debt repayment plan before it goes on the market to borrow.

Professor Saasa has noted that the government rarely focuses on how it will repay its debt each time it talks about borrowing.

He has further noted the important need for the government to always apply borrowed money in a way that secures repayment.
