The Zambia National Union of Teachers (ZNUT) has observed that the absence of the Council at the Teaching Council of Zambia (TCZ) is limiting the performance of the institution.

ZNUT Public Relations Manager, Joe Kasaka has wondered why an important institution such as the Teaching Council of Zambia could be running without a board for over a year.

In an interview with QTV News, Mr Kasaka says it is not right for the TCZ secretariat to be performing duties that should be done by the council.

He has since appealed to General Education Minister David Mubumba to quickly appoint a council in order to enhance the performance of the Teaching Council of Zambia.

The Teaching Council of Zambia is a statutory body established by an Act of Parliament and its mandate includes among others, to provide for the regulation of teachers, their practice and professional conduct.

The TCZ has however, for past one year been running without a council which is supposed to provide policy direction.
