16 people for various immigration offences countrywide

IMIThe Department of Immigration between Friday, 17th and Sunday, 19th August, 2018 arrested sixteen people for various immigration offences countrywide.

These arrested include two Filipinos, two Chinese nationals arrested in Lusaka for unlawful stay, and two Congolese and one Tanzanian national arrested in Nchelenge and Kasama respectively.

Those arrested for unlawful entry include five Congolese in Chingola and two other Congolese nationals in Mufulira.

One Burundian was arrested at Katima Mulilo Border Control for harbouring an illegal immigrant.

Immigration Department Spokesperson, Namati Nshinka says the Burundian who was harboured was also arrested for concealing his true identity.

Mr. Nshinka explains that during this period, the Department also secured the conviction of three people.

He says these were two Chinese nationals in Kitwe convicted, and each sentenced to pay a fine of K 15,000 or in default 12 months simple imprisonment for failing to observe conditions of their Employment Permits.

Mr Nshinka adds that during the same period, the Department refused eleven people entry into the country for failing to meet entry requirements and removed twenty eight illegal immigrants.
