Zambian scribes encouraged to venture into investigative journalism

Visiting veteran French journalist, Daniel Brown has encouraged Zambian journalists not to allow risks involved in investigative journalism hold them back from specializing in investigative journalism.

Mr. Brown says the risks of investigative journalism are similar to the risks faced by a fireman trying to put out a fire.

In an interview with QTV News, Mr. Brown, who has 34 years experience in journalism and a long career at the Canal France International (CFI), says just like putting out a fire would benefit a community, investigative journalism has similar great achievements beneficial to a larger population.

Mr. Brown, who is in Lusaka for a three days Investigative Journalism training workshop organized by the US embassy, says investigative journalism, however, requires asking tough questions if a journalist is to do a decent job.

He states that a journalist should keep in mind that he or she is likely to hurt or upset people in the course of his investigation and eventual reporting on an investigated issue.

Mr Brown says by drawing the attention of the society towards an issue, an investigative journalist does sometimes serve lives.
