Twelve people have died in separate accidents which happened on Sunday,12TH August in Lusaka, Southern, Eastern and Western provinces.
In Lusaka, nine people died while seven others sustained serious injuries in an accident which occurred at about 15:30 hours at Mpango area on Great East road in Chongwe District.
Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo says four passengers died on the spot while five others among them, the Driver of the Toyota Hiace, died at Chongwe Hospital where they were rushed for medical attention.
Ms Katongo says involved was a Toyota Hiace Registration number BAH 4875 which was being driven by William Chunga and a Volvo truck registration number ALF 2214 which was being driven by Crywell Banda aged 34 of Eastern Province.
She explains that the accident happened when the driver of the bus was overtaking improperly hence collided head on with the oncoming Volvo truck.
In Eastern Province, a 13 year old boy identified as Davy Ngulube, a passenger on a tractor, died on the spot while eight others sustained injuries in an accident which happened at Kasusu area, 32 kilometers east of Nyimba Boma on Great East road.
Ms Katongo says the accident happened when the driver of a Toyota Hilux registration number APB 3804, SikombeMukuka aged 58 of Bauleni Compound in Lusaka with four passengers on board tried to overtake a tractor registration number BAA 7913 driven by Francis Lungu aged 42 of Kapotwe village of Nyimba District failed as there was an oncoming truck and in the process hit into the tractor.
In Southern Province, one person died on the spot in an accident which happened at about 17:00 hours nine kilometers north of Batoka on Great North road when the driver of the motor vehicle Scania Truck registration number CH 06 PW GP driven from south to north by Franco Simoonga aged 50 of Dambwa Compound in Livingstone misjudged clearance distance and in the process hit into an unregistered motor cycle which was being ridden by Luckson Hampuma aged 44 carrying a Pillion Mulako Lishomwa aged 35 of Kazi Compound who died on the spot.
And in North Western Province, an unknown pedestrian died on the spot while six others sustained serious injuries in an accident which happened around 18:30 hours at Kyawama round about in Solwezi when the driver of a Mitsubishi Rosa Bus registration number ALX 6026 lost control of the motor vehicle, went off the road and hit six pedestrians who were standing off the road leaving one pedestrian dead and five others injured.
