The Zambia Cooperative Federation (ZCF) has encouraged small scale framers to take their maize to solar milling plants and have it processed as way of creating value addition to their produce.
Director General James Chirwa says farmers should not wait for a buyer to sell their maize when they can still have it processed into mealie meal and sell it as finished product.
Mr. Chirwa says farmers will actually make profits if they sell their farm produce as finished goods.
He says this is given the fact that when processed a 50 kilogram of maize gives out a 45 kilograms of mealie meal which can be sold between K115 and K120.
Mr. Chirwa states that farmers should therefore view the solar milling plants setup around Zambia as a market of their own.
