President Lungu urges investment in Agric-processing

President Lungu states that government’s emphasis in sectors such as Agriculture is increasing production and productivity in all sub-sectors.

He notes that the fisheries and livestock sub-sectors are among the strategic areas of focus in government’s quest of attaining sustainable economic empowerment.

President Lungu states that these two sub-sectors have the capacity to spur the much needed economic growth in Zambia.

He says the fisheries and livestock sub-sectors have the potential to reduce poverty, enhance food and nutrition security, create employment and wealth for the Zambian people.

President Lungu states that value addition in these two sub-sectors cannot therefore be over emphasized.

He says his call is on the private sector that they increase investments in Agro-processing in order to guarantee job creation and enable Zambia become more competitive in the region

President Lungu was speaking when he officially opened the 92nd Zambia Agricultural and Commercial Show being held in Lusaka under the theme ‘Sustainable Economic Empowerment’.

And Agriculture and Commercial Show Society of Zambia (ACSSZ) president Caroline Silwamba says this year’s theme build’s on the gains of last year’s theme of ‘Promoting A Green Economy.’

Mrs. Silwamba says this year’s theme is appropriate and sends a signal that sustainable empowerment is essential for economies and businesses everywhere.

She says next year’s theme for the Zambia Agricultural and Commercial Show will therefore be Embracing Industrialization.
