Media owners urged to invest more in investigative journalism

Whitney MulobelaVeteran Journalist Whitney Mulobela has observed the need for media owners in Zambia to invest more in investigative journalism.

Mr. Mulobela is urging media owners to realize that journalists they have employed as reporters can only do investigative reporting when they are well resourced.

In an interview with QTV news on the sidelines of the ongoing 4 days media workshop on investigative journalism in Lusaka, Mr. Mulobela noted that investigative reporting is resource intensive.

Mr. Mulobela says being an important aspect of journalism, investigative reporting also requires journalists to have a special set of skills.

He states that a journalist specializing in investigative reporting should have among other skills, the ability to do social accountability.

Mr. Mulobela says this is why it is important for media owners to not only ensure that reporters possess a special set of skills to do investigative journalism but also ensure that they are well financed.

He says this includes establishing a special desk for them in their newsrooms.
