Foundation for democratic process (FODEP) Executive Director Mweenge Chimfwembe has urged the Electoral Commission Of Zambia (ecz)  to continue issuance of voter registration to avoid voter apathy in future.

And Mr. Chimfwembe has called on government to invest more in civic education so as to encourage citizens why they should cast their ballot.

Mr. Chimfwembe is concerned that most people still don’t have civic knowledge and this affects participation in democratic processes as evidenced from the just ended mayoral by-elections in Lusaka.

Mr. Chimfwembe has attributed the low voter turnout at the mayoral by-elections to citizens been fatigued with elections, and that maybe citizens are evaluating the performance of politicians who were elected in 2016 general elections.

And Mr. Chimfwembe has called for decentralization in accessing national registration cards as it is an access to getting a voters card.

He has observed that this service is only found at certain doted districts thereby making it difficult for some people who would want to get it.
