vlcsnap-8550-05-05-03h49m37s625Water Development Permanent Secretary Edward Chomba says government has made strides in the provision of water and sanitation resulting into 65 percent of the population accessing basic water supply while 44 percent having access to improved sanitation.

And dr. Chomba has taken to task water utility companies in the country to effectively respond to concerns by domestic and commercial users as the commodity is key to achieving seventh national development plan.

Dt. Chomba says there can ever be development without establishing sustainable supply of water for both domestic and commercial users.

Speaking during the memorandum of understanding between the ministry of water development, sanitation and developmental and water aid aimed at facilitating collaboration in promoting access to water and sanitation, hygiene practices and sustainable environmental management, dr. Chomba says no meaningful development can be achieved without guaranteed water supply pointing out that it is worrying that 400 liters of water are used in the production of vehicles.

He says water utility like National Water And Sanitation Council (NWASCO) must pull up their socks and address the erratic water supplies among households.

Dr. Chomba has however reiterated governments determination to work with stakeholders in achieving the objectives and targets of the vision 2030 in ensuring that aspirations of the people are met.

And speaking at the same event, Water Aid Acting Country Director Bwembya Chanda has commended government for the open door policy it has continued to implement to all partners that are willing to compliment its effort in addressing challenges affecting the country.

And Mr. Chanda is hopeful that the MoU will strengthen its engagement and that all key areas outlined in the MoU are fully implemented for the benefit of the citizens at large.
