ECZ sets 6th September for Kasenengwa by-election.

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has set Thursday, the 6 th of September this year as the date on which to hold the Kasenengwa Parliamentary by-election.

The Commission will also hold Local Government by-elections on the same day in Kamalamba, Liyovu, , Nkenyauna wards in North Western Province and  in Mabili and Shikombwe wards in Western Province.

ECZ spokesperson Margaret Chimanse has told QTV News in a statement that the Parliamentary by-election follows the death of, the then area Member of Parliament, Victoria Kalima who died on the  15th of June this year, while  the local government by-elections are as a result of resignations of councilors.

Ms. Chimanse says commission has since set Thursday the 9 th  of August this year, between 09:00 hours and 15:00 hours, as the day for  the filing of nominations.

She has reminded would-be aspiring candidates to lodge completed and attested statutory declaration and nomination papers subscribed before a Magistrate, Local Court Magistrate, Head of a Government Primary or Secondary School, Principal of a College, Commissioner of Oaths, Election Officer or Returning Officer.

Ms. Chimanse says aspiring candidates for the Parliamentary by-election in Kasenengwa Constituency should take along with them  15 supporters who must be registered voters in the respective districts.

She says supporters must have in their possession their green national registration cards and voters’ cards and that aspiring candidates will be required to pay K7,500, non-refundable, nomination fee.

Ms. Chimanse has also reminded would-be aspiring candidates in the Local Government by-elections to take along with them 9 supporters who must be registered voters in the affected wards.

She notes that aspiring candidates will be required to pay, non-refundable, K750 nomination fee for City and Municipal Councils and K400 for District Councils.

The ECZ spokesperson has further reminded Media personnel and Registered NGOs wishing to monitor or observe the elections, to apply for accreditation in the respective districts.

She says this will take place from the 7 th to 5 th  of September this year.
