Chola commends advisory committee on Prerogative of Mercy

Advocacy against Child Abuse and Gender Based Violence has welcomed the decision by the advisory committee on Prerogative of Mercy not to consider any petition for inmates serving sentences for defilement among the prisoners who were last week pardoned by the Head of State.

Advocacy Executive Director Bellion Chola says this indeed has sent a strong warning to would-be offenders that the vice should not be tolerated in the country.

Mr. Chola says this decision by the advisory committee will also result in victims of defilement to feel safe and protected.

He says there is also need to ensure that bail is removed from defilement related cases so that would be offenders would think twice before engaging in such a vice.
