Hunger looming at Mpongwe Boarding High School

Hunger is looming at Mpongwe Boarding High School owing to lack of procurement of food at the school.

Staff at the institution have attributed this to lack of coordination between management and the accounts department at the school.

Pupils at the school last week threatened to protest owing to long hours of going without food.

Meanwhile, General Education Minister David Mabumba says he will ensure that order and smooth operations are restored at the school.

He says it is unfortunate that despite having recorded an improvement in the pass rate, the school is experiencing such problems.

Addressing staff at the institution yesterday, Mr. Mabumba said government will not condone disorder in any learning facility as this will deprive young learners of quality education.

He notes that government will ensure that an amicable solution is arrived at to sort out the impasse at the facility.

ZANIS reports that Mr. Mabumba was accompanied to the school by General Education Permanent Secretary in charge of Administration Felix Phiri, Mpongwe District Commissioner Keith Maila, Member of the Central Committee Elizabeth Phiri and officials from the Ministry of General Education.

Mpongwe Boarding High School has approximately 600 young learners from grades 8 to 12.
