The Economics Association of Zambia (EAZ) has disagreed with calls that government foregoes its plans to pursue an International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme.

EAZ president Chrispin Mphuka says his association is on record and still maintains that Zambia needs an IMF programme.

Dr. Mphuka says his Association hopes that efforts from government to resuscitate negotiations with the IMF will be put back in place.

In an interview by telephone with Q- News Dr. Mphuka who is a University lecturer states that not having an IMF programme will not be good for the Country.

Dr. Mphuka says conditions that the IMF will ask for should not be an issue because they are the same conditions the EAZ has been encouraging government to meet with or without the IMF.

He has referred to the need to cut down on government expenditure and reducing budget deficits as some of such conditions that should be met even without the IMF programme.
