The opposition Alliance for Democracy and Development (ADD) says the standard price for maize this crop marketing season should not less than K100 per 50kg bag.

ADD leader Charles Milupi says anything below that will mean killing farmers.

Mr. Milupi has told QTV News in an interview that the Agriculture sector cannot grow if farmers continue selling their produce below the cost of production.

He has urged government to,  in consultation with Zambia National Farmers’ Union  and peasant farmers, ascertain the actual cost of producing maize before announcing the flow price.

Mr. Milupi is proposing that the cost of seed, fertilizer and labor to be factored in when reaching at the proper flow price for maize this year.

He states that farmers must make a profit when their sell their produce.
