The National Union of Transport and Allied Workers (NUTAW) says workers at Indeni Petroleum Refinery in Ndola are worried about the policy inconsistencies on this national asset.

NUTAW President Kingsley Kachenjela says the union wants the government to address the uncertainties this is creating in the workers by clearly stating the future of Indeni.

Mr. Kachenjela says the workers do not know whether the company is being privatized, modernized, or indeed it is a Public Private Partnership (PPP).

He says it is also unclear whether the nation will see a completely new, modern refinery that will be processing crude oil under exploration in Zambia and neighboring countries like Malawi.

The NUTAW President wonders that given the huge regional market for petroleum products, the government is not repositioning Zambia by expanding the refinery for the COMESA region.
