Seventeen honored, as Zambia commemorates African Freedom Day

President Edgar Lungu lays a wreath to commemorate the Africa Freedom Day cerebration at the Freedom Statue

President Edgar Lungu has honored 17 heroes for their selfless service to the nation in commemoration of this year’s African freedom day.

Among the honored men and women are three traditional Leaders, who have been honored with the presidents insignia ,are chief Nkhula of Chinsali, chief Kanyama and Isaiah Kaacha have been honored for the great service they offer to the people in the chiefdoms ,which has contributed to the development of the nation.

The head of state also gave the president’s medal for gallantry to ten service men for exhibiting heroism.

Among the ten are six immigration officers who trailed suspected human smugglers and managed to apprehend three Zambian masterminds and fifteen illegal immigrants in Chongwe and in the process risked their lives by spending a night in the cold on 14th September 2017.

The other are three Zambia air force officers who prevented a ZAF aircraft flying from Lusaka to Solwezi from crashing on 24th March 2018 after the aircraft encountered an air accident which caused the rapture of the pressure seal of the aircrafts main cabin door which caused all the cabin pressure to be lost in a few seconds causing the aircraft top lose both pressure and altitude 10,000 feet above sea level.

Another service man honored was Cuberth Chishimba a Zambia prisons warder, who rescued a civilian from Kabwe 0n March 4th 2017 who wanted to commit suicide by jumping off an Airtel tower

This year’s African freedom day commemorations where preceded by wreaths by the head of state at the freedom statue.
