vlcsnap-2018-05-21-05h07m12s459Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ) Programme Officer Andisen Zulu says about 1, 991 children have been registered for birth certificates in Lusaka Province under the children welfare hubs project.

Early this month, the Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ) in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) launched the children welfare hubs project in Lusaka province. The project is being hosted by CCZ member churches namely UCZ-mount olive in Chongwe, Reformed Church of Zambia in Chawama, Reformed Church of Zambia in Libala and Salvation army in George compound.

Mr. Zulu says the program for the issuance of Birth Certificates is progressing very well and has received overwhelming support from the public.

He has told QTV news that CCZ’s aim is to ensure that every child has a birth certificate.

Mr. Zulu says Reformed Church of Zambia in Chawama recorded the highest number of registrations, followed by UCZ-mount olive in Chongwe, with Salvation Army in George compound recorded the lowest.

Mr. Zulu has attributed the increase in the number of registered children to the mass sensitization carried out by Council of Churches in Zambia.

He says CCZ is supplementing Government’s effort to conduct the birth registration exercise by training care givers who are sensitizing community members about the importance of a child having a birth certificate.
