Penalty fees for abuse of GRZ vehicles increased

Roland-MsiskaSecretary to the Cabinet Rowland Msiska has issued a cabinet circular containing measures put in place to ensure that government motor vehicles are utilized for the intended purpose.

This follows the misuse of government motor vehicles by public officers.

The measures put in place include the revision of penalty fees for the various offences.

The penalty fee for driving a GRZ vehicle when one is not a government employee has been revised from K1,000 to K5,000, driving a GRZ vehicle without a valid certificate of competence has been revised from K500 to K1,000,the penalty fee for parking at unauthorized place such as bars and night clubs has been revised from K250 to K1,000, while driving a GRZ vehicle under the influence of drugs and alcohol has been revised from K250 to K1,000.

Other revised penalty fees are carrying unauthorized passengers, goods or cargo from K150 to K800,driving a GRZ vehicle without duly completed log book from K100 to K500,driving on unauthorized route from K100 to K500,driving a GRZ vehicle beyond normal working hours without a pass from K150 to K500,over speeding or careless driving from K150 to K500,failure to secure a GRZ vehicle from K100 to K300 and found misusing government transport three times in six months from k800 to revocation of certificate of competence for a period of six months.

The circular further requests all controlling officers to ensure that all government motor vehicles are used in line with the provision of the circular to ensure efficient utilization of the Public Service Fleet.
