The opposition UPND has shunned the two day National Democracy Stakeholders’ summit organized by the Zambia Centre for Interparty Dialogue (ZCID) as a prelude to the national dialogue process.

The UPND has on many occasions indicated that they will not be part of the dialogue process as long as it is spearheaded by the Zambia Center for Interparty Dialogue (ZCID).

Speaking when he officially opened the Stakeholders’ Summit in Lusaka, Justice Minister Given Lubinda said dialogue is key to resolving any conflicts and that it does not matter who leads the process.

Mr. Lubinda has also assured the stakeholders that the government will take into consideration all the resolutions of the summit, adding that and that the enforcement of the resolutions should not worry them.

The Minister says he is aware of some of the concerns of stakeholders that include the application of the Public Order Act, separation of powers, judicial independence, electoral reforms and constitutionalism among others.

Speaking earlier, ZCID Chairperson Nathan Mulonga observed the need to have harmony in the country.

Mr Mulonga says this can only be achieved through processes such as the national democracy stakeholders’ summit one.

Mr. Mulonga has also observed the need for civility in the political arena.
