Lusaka Mayor Wilson Kalumba has died.

Lusaka Town Clerk Alex Mwansa has confirmed the death of Mr Kalumba to Q-News.

Mr. Mwansa says the mayor died this morning around 11:20 at the University Teaching Hospital where he was receiving treatment.

He says it is not yet clear what has caused Mr Kalumba’s death but that he was suffering from Kidney failure.

Mr Mwansa says minister of local government Vincent Mwale will issue a comprehensive statement on the mayor’s demise.

Meanwhile Luanshya mayor Nathan Chanda has described the Lusaka mayor’s death as regrettable.

Mr. Chanda says Mr. Kalumba’s death is a major setback to the ruling Patriotic Front (PF).

He tells Q-News that he received information of the mayor’s passing with shock.
