The Advocacy against Child Abuse and Gender Based Violence has called for stiffer punishment for child abusers in the country.

The organization is further calling on the Zambia Police Service to ensure that they thoroughly investigate cases of child abuse saying the dispensation of justice starts from the police station.

Advocacy Executive Director Bellion Chola tells QTV News that if the nation is to record desired results in ending child abuse cases, it is important that these cases are followed up to their conclusion.

And Mr. Chola is shocked that the Lusaka High Court overturned the conviction of Zambia Association of Musicians (ZAM) President Njoya Tembo’s wife, Brenda who was sentenced to five years imprisonment for assaulting her 14 year-old niece with a cooking stick.

He says his organization is studying the case but that such should be avoided.

Mr. Chola says this decision is a draw back to the efforts being made by the country in terms of ending child abuse in Zambia.
