Works and Supply Minister Felix Mutati says there is need to lift the financial platform of Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to boost their ability to manage businesses in order to take part in economic growth.

And the Works and Supply Minister has noted the importance for the nation to work as one in addressing the erosion in service delivery where civil servants are abusing Government transport.

Mr. Mutati says transport is a key component of the delivery mechanism of vision 2030 for Government across the country hence the need to safe guard it.

Mr. Mutati states that transport has become one of the significant costs to Government disclosing that the last review by Ministry of Finance shows that about K2.1 billion is consumed in repairs, and related expenses on vehicles annually.

He notes that accountability and discipline are crucial in achieving vision 2030 hence the need to ensure that public resources are protected against abuse.

The minister has since stated that Government will now place officers from the Ministry of Works and Supply at Toll gates and road blocks in an effort to curb misuse of resources.

He says economic development could only be achieved when expenditures were transparent and transactions clearly stated.

And in a related development, rehabilitation works on the 17Km Mongu-Limulunga Road in Western Province are scheduled to commence next week following the release of funds by Government.

Works and Supply Minister Felix Mutati says the road works had delayed but that with the money paid the contractor is expected to start mobilizing equipment on site next week.

The Minister said this when he paid a courtesy call on the Ngambela at the Litungu’s palace in Limulunga District.

Mr. Mutati also said the payments for the extension of township roads in Limulunga District had been done.
