Halting on tabling of Constitution amendment bill concerns YALI

The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) is concerned that the suspension of the tabling of the Constitution amendment bill as directed by President Edgar Lungu until after the impending dialogue process is completed will unnecessarily prolong the Constitution review process.

Governance advisor Isaac Mwanza says his organization is worried that such a suspension may delay the tabling of the Constitution Amendment Bill as late as 2020.

Mr. Mwanza has told QFM News by telephone that it is YALI’s view that no one should be held to ransom with respect the tabling of the Constitution Amendment Bill.

He says President Lungu should be wary that amending the Zambian Constitution is not only meant to benefit him as Head of State, but the rest of the Country’s population.

Mr. Mwanza has since advised President Lungu to reconsider his directive to the Justice Minister and ensure that the Republican Constitution is reviewed this year.
