Transparency International Zambia (TIZ) described the misapplication of over K 14 million by local authorities in the country as shocking, unacceptable and an insult to the Zambian people.

TIZ Executive Director Wesley Chibamba says he is disappointed that public institutions such as local authorities have continued to pilfer public resources without any regard to would be beneficiaries of these funds.

Mr. Chibamba says this is shameful and must be condemned by any well meaning Zambian.

He has wondered how K14,643,918 out of K38,688,659 allocated to 29 districts meant to help change many lives would be misapplied without anyone taking responsibility or anyone losing their job.

Mr. Chibamba says it is disheartening that the plunder of public resources has gotten to these levels and no one seems to be doing anything about it.

He has told QTV news that revelations in the report of the auditor general on the review of operations of local authorities for the financial years ended 31st December, 2014, 2015 and 2016 are a serious setback in the country which is trying to fight the decay, considering that the local government ministry is at the heart of the decentralization plans.

Meanwhile Republican Progressive Party (RPP) president James Lukuku has demanded for the arrest of the controlling officers and individuals cited in the Auditor General’s report.
