ZCID sets date for National Democracy Stakeholders Summit

The Zambia Centre for Interparty Dialogue (ZCID) has announced that the National Democracy Stakeholders Summit will be held from 15th to 16th May, 2018.

ZCID Spokesperson Jackson Silavwe says the summit is expected to provide an opportunity for Zambians and stakeholders to critically review the current political season and collectively offer home-grown solutions fitted to the realities of the country’s rapidly evolving democratic culture.

He says the summit will be a consultative forum chaired by independent facilitators, who will help to stir informed conversations on various issues facing the country under the theme “Dialogue and reforms for peace, unity, tolerance and development.”

Mr. Silavwe says the Summit is targeting delegates from all the political parties, church mother bodies, civil society organisations (CSOs), labour unions, academia, and traditional leaders among others.

He has expressed optimism that as part of the agenda, the summit will serve as a channel of communication and exchanging information among stakeholders on possible reforms around the constitution, judiciary, electoral system, and the public order act (POA).

Mr Silavwe says it is hoped that participants will reach consensus and make recommendations.
