UNZA library disowns notice on dress code

UNZA-NoticeThe University of Zambia Library has disowned a notice advising female students against dressing half naked when going to use the library, a situation said to disturbs the male students.

In a statement, University Liberian Christine Kanyengo says the poster in question was not authored by the University of Zambia Library management.

Ms Kanyengo says any such communication would be disseminated through authorized official university channels, adding that the university has no dress code

She has since unreservedly apologized to female library users for any offence caused.

Ms Kanyengo says the poster does not represent who they are, as they are a space that promotes access to all library materials to people from all walks of life.

She has urged all female University of Zambia library users to feel comfortable when using the library.

Ms Kanyengo has stressed that the University of Zambia is a secular institution built on the principles of diversity and cherishes academic freedom.

She adds that investigations have since been instituted to into the matter so that the culprits are brought to book.
