Engineering Services Corporation (ESCO) says normal pontoon operations at Kazungula border will resume on Sunday,6th May,2018.

ECSO Chief Executive Officer, Engineer Patrick Nyirenda says repair works on the broken down pontoon will be completed on Saturday 5th May,2018.

He says this follows the arrival of the spare parts that were being expected from South Africa.

Mr Nyirenda says the gears purchased from South Africa have been received and arrangements have been made to have them delivered to Kazungula so that the pontoon that was out of operation can start operating.

He has since apologized for the inconvenience caused by the non-operational of one of the pontoons at Kazungula which has resulted in the Zambia Revenue Authority losing K35 million per day in tax revenue.

Last week, Works and Supply Minister Felix Mutati gave ESCO management a one week ultimatum in which to repair the Zambezi Drifter Pontoon without fail.

He said the grounding of the pontoon had caused the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) to lose a colossal sum of money amounting to K35 million per day which could not be allowed to continue because the money being lost would help attend to many developmental programmes.

This is contained in a statement issued to Q-news by ministry of works and supply public relations officer Ndubi Mvula.
