Dr MatibiniSpeaker of the national assembly Dr Patrick Matibini has urged the consultants from the ministry of infrastructure development to expedite completion of the architectural drawings for the re-development of the national assembly motel.

Speaking after hearing and viewing an update on the architectural process of the redevelopment of the motel, Dr. Matibini noted the need for the process to be expedited in order to move to the next level of soliciting for funds from the ministry of finance.

The speaker has noted the importance of the motel to be development considering that some Members of Parliament currently are not accommodated at the motel due to inadequate space.

He has also advised the architects to put into consideration suggestions by some ministers and members of parliament for some facilities such as the bouquet hall to be excluded from the plan.

Dr Matibini is of the view that accommodation should be prioritized.

Speaking during the same meeting Finance Minister Margaret Mwanakatwe expressed disappointment at the rate at which the architectural process in going and the kind of 3 dimension presentation the consultants from the ministry are giving.

She has since suggested that the architects combine the first and third phase so that the whole redevelopment process only has two phases.

She is therefore hopeful that the designs will be done in such a way that the new motel will stand the test of time and will offer accommodation to all parliamentarians.

And senior architect in the ministry of housing and infrastructure development Emmanuel Mpundu said they will put what has been suggested by the speaker and minister of finance into consideration.

He has however stated that the figure regarding the redevelopment of the motel has not yet been established, neither has the period in which it will be redeveloped.
