A couple of Sikabenga village in Chief Simwatachela’s chiefdom of Kalomo district in Southern province has been struck to death by lightning.
In a statement made available to Q-news, Southern province Police Commissioner Bonny Kapeso has identified the couple as 35 year-old Allan Mpolo and his 26 year-old wife Doreen Yengwandi.
Mr. Kapeso says the incidence happened on Sunday around 02 hours in Sikabenga village.
He says the couple was struck as they were sleeping in their house and both died on spot.
Mr Kapeso says the couple whose bodies are lying in Kalomo district hospital mortuary has left behind a baby whose age has not yet been confirmed.
meanwhile Police in Lusaka have arrested a foreign national suspected to be a prohibited immigrant and two Zambian nationals who are suspected to be behind a spate of break-ins and thefts in Lusaka.
Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo has named the foreign national as Erick Niyonsaba aged 23 of Chipata compound and the two Zambians as Alex Banda aged 26 and Katongo Chilufya aged 29 both of Garden compound.
Ms Katongo says the three were arrested following investigations instituted into the break-in which occurred between 25th March, 2018 at about 20:30 hours and 26th March, 2018 at 06:00 hours at Fine Meat Products in Kabanana Compound.
She states that Police recovered 13 fridges, assorted meat products and assorted household goods believed to have been stolen from various places.
She has since called on members of the public who could have had their property stolen to visit Emmasdale Police Station and help the police identify the recovered properties.
Meanwhile, an 11 year-old girl died upon arrival at Solwezi General Hospital after she was hit by a Mitsubishi Canter Registration number ATB 3401 as she was trying to cross the road at Manjimambwe School along the Mutanda-Solwezi road.
Ms Katongo says the driver of the vehicle John Kanyembo aged 42 of Solwezi was driving at high speed.
