The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) says government through the Ministry of Justice should consider taking to Parliament the amendment of the Public Order Act in the next sitting which resumes in June.

Minister of Justice Given Lubinda has indicated that the Government will facilitate the amendment and enactment of the amended Public Order Act by the end of 2018.

YALI Governance Advisor Isaac Mwanza says his organization feels it will be easier to take the amendment bill to Parliament in the June sitting as opposed to the last sitting.

Mr. Mwanza tells QTV News that this is because the last sitting of Parliament which normally starts in September or October is occupied with the national budget debates.

He states that if the government is committed to amending the colonial Public Order Act, it must take the amendment bill to Parliament during the coming sitting.
