Kambwili charged with 39 counts

Kambwil CPolice in Lusaka have arrested Roan Member of Parliament Chishimba Kambwili and charged him with two counts of obtaining pecuniary advantage and 37 counts of being in possession of properties reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime.

Mr Kambwili has since been detained in Police custody after being denied Police bond, and is expected to appear in court tomorrow.

Mr Kambwili was arrested when he presented himself at Woodland Police Station around 09:12 hours this morning after being summoned.

And one of Mr. Kambwili’s lawyers Keith Mweemba told journalists that his client is ready to go to court.

And Anti Corruption Commission Corporate Affairs officer Jonathan Siame says the alleged offences were committed by Mr Kambwili in his capacity as Roan Member of Parliament.

Mr Kambwili who is also National Democratic Congress political consultant was yesterday detained by police and Immigration officers at Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe International Airport in Ndola upon arrival from South Africa where he had gone for medical checkups.

He was later freed and told to report to Woodlands Police Station today.
