Lusaka man kills his children before committing suicide

A 30-year old man of Lusaka’s Emmasdale area has killed himself and his two children by consuming a pesticide.

In a statement released to Q-news, Police Assistant Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi says Matero Police received a report of suspected murder and suicide after a worker at a named lodge in Matero Township reported that an unknown man aged between 30 and 35 years who had booked a room at the lodge on 19th March around 22:00 hours accompanied by two children a boy and a girl had been found dead together with the children.

He says on the evening of 20th, March, 2018 around 20:00hrs, the members of staff at the lodge noticed that the guests were not coming out despite knocking on the door several times.

Mr Chilabi says one of the workers then decided to peep through the keyhole and saw the man gasping.

He narrates that it was at this point that the workers reported the matter to Matero Police Station and that upon arrival; Police officers entered the room and found the children had already died.

He says their father who was found gasping was rushed to the hospital where he later died.

Mr Chilabi says Police officers found three empty bottles of pesticides in the room, torn documents and two cell phones submerged in water.
