NHI burden to informal sector-Munsanje

SOS Children’s Village Zambia National Director Joseph Munsanje says the introduction of the National Health Insurance Scheme is a burden to those in the formal sector.

Mr. Munsanje has told Q-News that this is because those in the formal sector are already subjected to high taxation.

He notes the need to instead create a pro-poor Health Insurance Scheme that will allow a majority of people to participate, than targeting a few people in formal employment.

Mr Munsanje says there is need to give people in the formal sector tax relief.

He has since called on government to considering exploring ways of broadening the Health Insurance Scheme in order to bring on board more people outside the formal sector.
