UPND President Hakainde Hichilema has described the national land policy as defective, aimed at taking away land from traditional leaders.

Speaking during a media briefing in Lusaka, Mr. Hichilema says the PF Government must be ashamed for trying to take away the only thing that chiefs in the country find solace in by putting it under state control.

He has since commended the House of Chiefs for walking out of the meeting with Lands Minister Jean Kapata.

And the UPND leader has accused President Edgar Lungu of trying to abolish traditional leadership in the country by suggesting the removal of the ‘tribal tag’ from the National Registration Card.

Mr. Hichilema says people in Zambia are identified by the traditional leadership where they come from.

Meanwhile, the UPND Leader says he will attend this year’s Kuomboka Ceremony slated for April 7, 2018.

He says it will be an emotional ceremony for him considering that he was arrested and charged for treason after attending the ceremony in 2017.

Mr Hichilema says no one including Home Affairs Minister Steven Kampyongo will stop him from attending the ceremony.

At the same briefing, Chilongozi Ward Councilor in Sinda district Newstead Phiri narrated how area Member of Parliament Masautso Tembo allegedly enticed him to resign as a Councilor and join the ruling Patriotic Front.

Mr. Phiri claims that Mr Tembo facilitated a meeting with President Lungu who allegedly promised him a job,and gave him K20, 000 before asking him to sign a document not knowing that by signing the document he was resigning as Chilongozi Ward Councilor.
