Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) Commissioner General Kingsley Chanda says the authority has in the first two months of 2018 collected above target revenue totaling K440 million.

Mr. Chanda is confident that ZRA will once again exceed its revenue collection target just like it did last year after collecting K1.5 billion above target.

He says with its enforcement strategy as well as support from relevant government wings, the authority is posed to collect revenue above its target for 2018.

And Mr Chanda has disclosed that ZRA recovered a total of K850 million from smuggled goods that were intercepted in various parts of the country in 2017.

He however, says it is difficult to estimate how much the authority is losing in terms of smuggling because smuggling is done in different forms.

He cites the oil marketing industry were some importers declare petroleum oils as Crude Edible Oils that attract 5 percent custom duty when in the actual sense they are Finished Edible Oils that attract a 25 percent custom duty.

Mr. Chanda says the authority is working hard in ensuring that importers declare the exact goods they are importing into the country.

The ZRA Commissioner General spoke to our staffer Albert Mpezeni via telephone from Livingston, Southern Province where he is engaging tax payers in the province.
