Over 150 Luampa pupils abandon school due to floods

More than 150 pupils at Kanyenze Primary School in Luampa district in Western Province have been forced to abandon school following floods that hit the area after successive days of rains.

The pupils have failed to attend lesson for the last four days after Luampa River burst its banks and flooded the area.

Kanyenze Primary School Head Teacher Brian Likumbi has confirmed the development saying over 150 pupils have been completely cut off from the school as their areas are flooded to a point where they cannot make any movements.

Mr. Likumbi has called for quick intervention from government through the office of the District Commissioner.

And Luampa District Commissioner Winnie Kamayoyo who visited the affected areas has assured Kanyenze residents that the matter will be reported to Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU).
