Govt urged to intervene in mealie-meal prices

The opposition UPND has called for government’s intervention in the increasing prices of mealie meal in most parts of the country.

Mealie meal is selling at between K75 and K 80 from K70 and K75 for a 25kg bag of breakfast in some parts of the country while roller meal is selling at K55 from K50.

UPND Chairman for Rural Reconstruction and Development Moono Mapani says the people of Zambia more especially rural dwellers, are already burdened, and that this increase is too much for them.

Mr. Mapani says the government ought to know and realize that the people of Zambia solely depend on mealie meal as a staple food; hence the need to ensure the price of the commodity is affordable.
